Abstract deutsch
Abstract englisch
The paper describes the theoretical concept of alexithymia (i.e., the inabil-ity to perceive one's own feelings and to describe them) and includes a study showing the case of a female patient suffering from anorexia and al-cohol abuse; the case illustrates the concrete manifestations of the illness.
Moreover, the symptomatology of the alexithymia are discussed with espe-cially the affective and cognitive structures being scrutinized and phanta-sies, dreams and language of alexithymic persons included in the analysis.
The chapter on the relation of the alexithymic persons to their own person-ality and to other objects focuses on the interpersonal relations of the pa-tients; these patients are frequently bound to a partner in a rather symbiotic way, thus trying to compensate for their lacking identity feelings.
The final chapter gives a survey of psychodynamic explanatory models which are primarily based on insights derived from object-relation psychology and the narcissism theory.
